Independent assessment confirms Interactio satisfies ISO 20109 audio requirements

We at Interactio are committed to ensuring that our RSI solution delivers the best experience for our global base of clients, interpreters, and participants. In accordance with ISO 20109:2016 standard, Interactio commissioned an independent assessment in 2021.

From this assessment Interactio concludes that we are compliant with ISO 20109 audio requirements.

The assessment, conducted by the Laboratory for Acoustics Department of Physics and Astronomy of KU Leuven, finds that across the tested bit rates (128kbps, 256kbps, 512kbps) and all conducted tests, Interactio satisfies ISO 20109 audio requirements regardless of filters being on or off.

The assessment details the following:

• Interactio was tested in different options. The bit rate (128kbps, 256kbps, 512kbps) turned out not to play a significant role.
• With the option of 128kbps, with echo cancellation, AGC, and noise suppression off, the spectrum is perfectly flat, guaranteeing a completely neutral sound transfer from speaker to listener (not taking into account possible non-flatness of the microphone and headphone spectra), following ISO 20109. This was the case for all signals, including very irregular ones.
• The spectrum of Interactio with echo cancellation, AGC, and noise suppression options on, is less flat compared to when these options are off, especially for very irregular signals, but in accordance with ISO20109, the overall spectrum lies within ±3dB between 125Hz and 15kHz when measured in 1/3 octave intervals.

What is ISO 20109?

ISO 20109 defines requirements for equipment used for simultaneous interpretation. It sets a common ground for accessibility and usability of interpreters' consoles, booth furniture and equipment, and system operation.

ISO 20109 and future standards

In addition to ISO 20109, Interactio also complies with the requirements of ISO 24019 PAS and is committed to ensuring our RSI solution satisfies the needs of future standards.
